Dead Word
Rocky lewycky and Ian Ingram
Paper, Resin, Steel, Charcoal ,and Light

Bang Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Dead Word is a body of work made in response to the disempowering political climate and everyday violence that is shielded from the public by corporate culture. Through the juxtaposition of Eastern text and universal iconography, this work explores the subtle human connections that lie beneath the media’s prescribed facade.

Four distinct elements drive the work of "Dead Word"-the notion of the figure as self, the use of Arabic calligraphy, translucency, and finally currency.

“Dead Word” is a collaboration between Rocky Lewycky and Ian Ingram. Ian first draws the hands in charcoal and passes them to Rocky. Rocky then drills out the calligraphy with a drill bit. Each hole is individually drilled to allow light to create the patterns though each piece. After the completion of the paper piece, it is casted in resin and finished.
