Grain Stacks, End of Summer (1890) paper, ink, porcelain 2006-2008 60”x100”
This drawing exists within three dimension of time:
Similar to the Book series I’m interested in how the physical properties of the piece change throughout the next 100 years and well beyond. Due to its durable properties, the porcelain will take the role of the constant while the ink and paper are allowed to move through color shifts.
Presently, the mark making acts as a record of human movement and time. About 150 fine tip pens were used to create the piece. This build up of time through movement is meant to convey a sense of stillness within the present now.
I am employing a Monet painting as a sample for the identity of art, which has paralleled current thinking while marking history, time and space. I chose Monet’s piece because of his very own need to capture time and light. The form of a drawer pull is used to reference storage and its containment of history.
