This porcelain vase is fired on its side on seashells. A secondary clay catcher, unique to each piece, collects the runny glaze and is discarded after the firing. Residue from the seashells and catcher are sanded out and the final glaze is shaped into a seashell pattern. This piece is signed with 22k gold leaf on the bottom.
