This porcelain Koan Bell is fired on its side on seashells. A secondary clay catcher, unique to each piece, collects the runny glaze and is discarded after the firing. Residue from the seashells and catcher are sanded out and the final glaze is shaped into a seashell pattern. This piece is gilded with 23k gold leaf on the bottom. This piece is sculptural. It does not audibly ring.
